Gov. Daugaard stresses skills training, welcomes Secretary of Labor at South Dakota workshop

South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard hosted the first workshop of the Western Governors' Workforce Development Initiative on Aug. 3-4 in Sioux Falls, at which he delivered a keynote that illuminated the changing job market and encouraged more skills training. Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta also delivered a keynote.

Gov. Hickenlooper addresses workforce development during low unemployment at Colorado workshop

Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper hosted the Denver workshop on Sept. 18-19 and delivered a keynote on the challenge of developing workforce at a time of low unemployment. WGA Chair and South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard also spoke. Panelists addressed topics such as aligning education with training and how technology will continue to change the workplace.

Gov. Fallin urges closing the ‘skills gap’ between job seekers, employers at Oklahoma workshop

Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin hosted the Oklahoma City workshop on Oct. 16-17 and delivered a keynote that addressed the challenge of closing the gap between the skills prospective employees now have and the skills employers will need. WGA Chair and South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard also spoke. Panelists addressed topics such as the training and credentials that will prepare them for in-demand careers.

Gov. Inslee stresses innovation in developing jobs at Washington workshop

Washington Governor Jay Inslee hosted the workshop on Nov. 1-2 and delivered a keynote that highlighted the nobility of all work and the critical importance of innovation. The event in Seattle explored workforce development in the healthcare, advanced manufacturing and IT sectors, as well as how to establish and scale apprenticeship programs.
