WGA submits permitting recommendations to Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy

In correspondence with the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy, WGA shared bipartisan policy recommendations in light of the Subcommittee’s May 13 hearing, Wires, Rates, and States: Permitting Transmission for Reliable and Affordable Power. The letter, signed by WGA Executive Director Jack Waldorf on May 14, called for coordinated, streamlined permitting processes while ensuring environmental and natural resource protection. “Planning, permitting, and siting transmission projects efficiently requires strong coordination among states, utilities, and federal agencies,” reads the letter. “This is especially so in the West, where transmission infrastructure often crosses multiple land jurisdictions. Western Governors recognize that streamlining this process to reduce timelines is critical but should be done without compromising the role of states.” Read the correspondence in full for further details.
