In correspondence with the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Western Governors voiced support for the bipartisan effort behind the Geothermal Energy Optimization Act (GEO Act). “Western states already lead the nation in energy production from a wide range of sources, and, given that the vast majority of high-yield geothermal energy capacity in the United States is in the West, are poised to lead in geothermal energy development as well,” read the letter of October 23, 2024, signed by New Mexico Governor and WGA Chair, Michelle Lujan Grisham, and Utah Governor and WGA Vice Chair, Spencer Cox. “By addressing some of the obstacles to its development, this bill would help unlock the potential of geothermal energy.” Read the full correspondence for further details.
