The Western Governors’ resolution advocating responsible use of federal lands for grazing and the initial report of National Forest and Rangeland Management Initiative have been shared ahead of the House hearing “Preserving Opportunities for Grazing on Federal Land.”
WGA shared the policy with the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on the Interior, Energy and Environment for its hearing on July 24, 2018.
The WGA policy resolution, Public Lands Grazing, articulates Western Governors’ support for the continued responsible use of federal lands for grazing. It notes, in part: “We support sound, science-based management decisions for federal lands – including adaptive management – and believe these decisions should be based upon flexible policies that take into account local ecological conditions and state planning decisions for wildlife and other human needs.”
The National Forest and Rangeland Management Initiative 2017 Special Report highlights mechanisms to bring states, federal land managers, private landowners and other stakeholders together to discuss issues and opportunities in forest and rangeland management.
“I request that you include these documents in the permanent record of the hearing, as they articulate Western Governors’ policy positions and recommendations on this important issue,” stated the letter signed by WGA Executive Director James Ogsbury.
